NDP ZeroSiX Ends, and goes Team-Blog-based!

Dear Cadets and Instructors,

National Day Parade 2006 came to an end on 9th of August 2006. All the hard work put into the Marching Contingent has paid off and were recognized and commended.

A post-parade party was prepared for all Cadets and Instructors with 200 red and white balloons, bottles of sparkling juices, a buffet spread and countless effort, hours, tears and sweat put into preparing these.

Some 76 Angels received their Angel Ranks from their Mortals on the party as well. There was a total of 17 Angel Senior Warrant Officers, 17 Angel Warrant Officers, 8 Angel Staff Sergeants, 18 Angel Sergeants and 16 Angel Corporals.

To recognize all the hardwork put in by the Angels, the ArchAngels gave all Angels 2 bonus points each, which sees the advancement of several Angels to the next Rank, and some up 2 Ranks, up to the Rank of Angel Warrant Officer.

A post-parade gathering was also held on the 12th of August 2006 at East Coast Park, where all Cadets and Instructors went wild and did footdrill on the beach and fired off the Feiu-De-Joie with imaginary rifles.

National Day Parade 2006

Dear Cadets and Instructors,

In 3 days' time, Singapore will celebrate its 41th year of independence. The National Day Parade 2006 will take place in the 33 year-old National Stadium, for the last time. If you would recall, it was 30 years ago in 1976, that the National Day Parade was held in the National Stadium for the first time.

A total of 69 Cadets turned up for the final training yesterday. The Cadets did not go home empty-handed, other than the usual snacks, tidbits and goodies, the cadets also brought home their NDP funpacks and Hang-Ten T-Shirts.

In 3 days' time, the RCYNDP ZeroSiX journey will come to an end, with a simple "Thank you, and Goodbye". The National Day Parade details are as follows:

6th Combined Rehearsal

Time files... The National Day Parade 2006 Preview ended last Saturday with a total Cadet turnout of 74. Even though there is a small glitch during the Forging Out sequence, the National Day Parade 2006 reacted with wit, initiative and unity.

The 6th Combined Rehearsal will be the last rehearsal before National Day, where all the efforts and preparation NDP 2006 put in become reality!

On the Parade Commander's command, the Colours Party will form up at the head of the Guard-of-Honour Contingent and march-pass the Saluting Dias at the music, "Tentera Singapura March", or the "Singapore Armed Forces March".

When the Singapore Police Force Guard-of-Honour Contingent marches-pass the Saluting Dias, the music changes to "Polis Republik Singapura March", or the "Singapore Police Force March".

So, listen out for the march-pass music this Saturday!

5th Combined Rehearsal

Dear Cadets and Instructors,

NE Show was a blast! The National Stadium was filled with a sea of red and screams and laughter of innocent young children, the future of Our Singapore. It was the second show after the 8th of July Family Day, and the National Day Parade 2006 Red Cross Youth Marching Contingent Committee is pleased and proud to announce that the National Day Parade 2006 Red Cross Youth Marching Contingent has maintained the record of ZERO casualties for the show. Well done!

A total of 74 Cadets attended the training, yet another feat!

Come this Saturday, the National Day Parade 2006 Red Cross Youth Marching Contingent will go through its final rehearsal before National Day Parade 2006 Preview! The Preview is one major show where members of public holding preview tickets will gather at the 33-year-old National Stadium for a sneak peek of whats in for NDP 2006.

The Committee feels that there is a need to and will hereby make known the critieria used to determine the list of Reserves for the Contingent. The Reserves are chosen on a case-by-case basis and based on a number of factors such as:

- Poor past attendance, mainly AWOL (Absense Without Official Leave)
- Attitude or disciplinary problems
- Casualties with serious cases or conditions
- Having put in little or no effort in activities organized for the Contingent

The Committee will make changes to the list as and when necessary and will review each case after each training. The Committee will not hesitate to remove any Cadet found falling into the above mentioned criteria from the Main Contingent.

The Committee hopes that all Cadets understand that there are 79 Cadets in the RCYNDP ZeroSiX Family but only 64 places in the Main Contingent.

It is cruel but necessary to pull out 15 cadets from the Main Contingent as Reserves.

However, the Committee will put in the utmost effort to ensure that every Cadet in the RCYNDP ZeroSiX Family will have at least a shot at one of the shows.

Dear Angels,

A total of 17 Angels will be promoted in this week's NDP Angels Promotion. NDP Angels reached yet another milestone today as 3 Angel Staff Sergeants will be promoted to the Rank of Angel Warrant Officers. These are Angels who cared for their Mortals constantly every week without fail. These are Angels who have shown limitless leadership potential. These are Angels of very lucky Mortals.

In addition, a total of 9 Angels will be promoted to the Rank of Angel Staff Sergeant. This is made possible with the alteration of the Promotion Criteria for the Rank of Angel Staff Sergeant to include Special Duties (e.g. emcees, bringing out the birthday cake etc.) other than Leading a Cheer.

Also, 3 Angels will be appointed as Angel Non-Commissioned Officers (Angel NCOs) and promoted to the Rank of Angel Sergeant. Another 2 Angels will be promoted to the Rank of Angel Corporal.

Dear Cadets and Instructors,

The 3rd Combined Rehearsal ended with a bang! Families and friends gathered at the 33 year-old National Stadium to watch YOU perform for the Nation. A total of 71 cadets turned up for the event today as National Day draws near in 31 days!

The 4th Combined Rehearsal will be an NE Show. Primary school children from all over Singapore will fill the 60,000 capacity of the National Stadium to experience the NDP experience. The training details for the 4th Combined Rehearsal are as follows:

For 3 weeks starting from the 15th of July 2006, 2 participants will be eliminated. With 4 finalists left, the 6 eliminated participants will take part in a WILDCARD face-off for the 5th spot in the NDP Idol Finals!

The NDP Idol Finals will take place on the National Day, 9th of August 2006, Singapore's 41th birthday.

Dear Cadets and Instructors,

The 2nd Combined Rehearsal ended yesterday with a total cadet turnout of 74. It was the highest cadet turnout since the 2nd Internal Training at Guangyang Secondary School. The National Day Parade 2006 Red Cross Youth Marching Contingent Committee was delighted with the sudden surge in Cadet attendance, but the Committee believes that it could be better.

The 3rd Combined Rehearsal will commence this Saturday, on the 8th of July 2006. This Combined Rehearsal is special as it will be opened to National Day Parade 2006 Family Day ticket-holders. Spectators will fill the National Stadium during the Actual Timing Run in the evening, and all eyes will be on YOU!

68 out of 79 cadets attended the 1st Combined Rehearsal (CR) last Saturday. The attendance is still considered poor. It is hoped that the attendance rate will be better when school reopens.

The next rehearsal CR 2 will be held on a Sunday, 2 July 06 due to the SYFOC Parade and SAF Day Parade on 1 July 06. Despite being a Sunday, all of us are expected to attend CR 2 in the interest of our nation; For Honour, For Country.

1st Combined Rehearsal

Dear Cadets and Instructors,

64 cadets and 11 Instructors attended the 5th & the last Combined Ceremonial Rehearsal which was concluded earlier today. Contrary to the end of the ULP season, there was a drop in cadet attendance rate which is an issue of concern to the National Day Parade 2006 Red Cross Youth Marching Contingent Committee.

In a lighter note, the scheduled make up practice on 21 June 2006 has been cancelled due to good performance on the Contingents' part.

Consequently, the next rehearsal, the 1st Combined Rehearsal, will be held on 24 June 2006.

The Combined Rehearsals (CRs) will be where all the components of NDP 06 will be intergrated. The Pre-Parade Segments, Commando Free-Fall, Parade, Fly-Past, 21-Gun Salute, Aerial Displays etc. Therefore, the Combined Rehearsals will be lots of fun! The ArchAngels wish to bring up a few points worthy of concern to all Angels regarding your Angel career advancements.

1.Angels Absent on 3rd of June 2006
1.1 All Angels absent on the 3rd of June (including those in ULP), The Birth of NDP Angels, are still Angel Privates. To promote to the Angel Lance Corporal rank, please write "A Testimonial on Why You Joined NDP" to your Mortal and hand it up to the ArchAngels on the 17th of June 2006.

1.2 All Angels without Mortals should prepare their "A Testimonial on Why You Joined NDP" beforehand, and be assigned a Mortal on the 17th of June 2006 who your Testimonial will be forwarded to.

2. Promotion to Angel Corporal
2.1 All Angels present on the 3rd of June were already promoted to the Angel Lance Corporal rank, and some of these Angels are only 1 step away to be promoted to the Angel Corporal rank.

2.2 The ArchAngels encourage all Angel Lance Corporals to work hard and the next promotion may be as soon as next week.

3. Angels World Cup Predictions and Angel Journey Recollections
3.1 As part of the Angels' entertainment plan, the ArchAngels have organized a "Guess the 4 World Cup Semi-Finalists" challenge. All Angels are to submit their speculations on which countries will be the top 4 semi-finalists in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2006 in a form of a letter to the ArchAngels by the 17th of June. There will be prizes to be won!

3.2 In your letter to the ArchAngels, state your name and school, your Mortal's name and school, your guess of the 4 semi-finalist countries and what have you done for your Mortal since the 3rd of June inclusive.

3.3 For the last item on what you did for your Mortal, you may include the number of letters you have written (not including "A Testimonial on Why You Joined NDP"), the number of gifts you gave your Mortal, and the little gestures you did for your Mortals e.g. finishing up your Mortal's leftover lunch, helping your Mortal throw away rubbish etc.

3.4 All Angels are advised to prepare the letter beforehand as there may not be time for you to do so during the 17th June training.

5th Combined Ceremonial Rehearsal

Dear Cadets and Instructors,

The 4th Combined Ceremonial Rehearsal concluded today with a total cadets turnout of 67, an improvement from recent rehearsal turnouts. This rehearsal was quite an experience as this was the first time it rained heavily resulting in muddy ground and suddenly a shoe got separated from its owner. Amazing!!

The 5th and last Combined Ceremonial Rehearsal will commence next Saturday, the 17th of June.

To date, the National Day Parade 2006 Red Cross Youth Marching Contingent has gone through 2 Internal Trainings and Selections and 4 Marching Contingent and Combined Ceremonial Rehearsals.

The National Day Parade 2006 Red Cross Youth Marching Contingent Committee believes that all Cadets have since accustomed to using the RCYNDP ZeroSiX Blogsite as the main source of information dissemination, from training details to other miscellaneous announcements.

Therefore, with immediate effect, the Committee will cease all reminders via phone calls to all Cadets, unless in situations pertaining to last minute changes in training details.

The Committee also appeals to all Cadets to remind their fellow Contingent-mates to check the RCYNDP ZeroSiX Blogsite regularly, especially the day before trainings. The Committee thanks all Cadets for their cooperation.

4th Combined Ceremonial Rehearsal

Dear Cadets and Instructors,

The 3rd Combined Ceremonial Rehearsal concluded last Saturday with a total cadets turnout of 62, 2 cadets shy of a full contingent. It was the first time the National Day Parade 2006 Red Cross Youth Marching Contingent step foot on the National Stadium for an NDP Rehearsal.

The 4th Combined Rehearsal commencing this coming Saturday, the 10th of June, and subsequent Combined Ceremonial Rehearsals will take place at the National Stadium as well. The training details are as follows:

NDP Angels Promotion

NDP Angels descended on Mother Earth today with 62 Angel Privates rejoycing the event with "A Testimonial on Why You Joined NDP" written to their Mortals on Mother Earth.

The ArchAngel was also extremely pleased to see some dutiful Angels prepared creatively crafted gifts and lovingly written messages to their Mortals.

Hence, the ArchAngel is pleased to announce the Promotion of all 62 Angel Privates present on the Birth of NDP Angels yesterday to the rank of Angel Lance Corporal.

The Birth of NDP Angels

Since the dawn of existence, there have always been moments when the course of history shifted. Such a turning point is upon us now. On the 3rd of June 2006, NDP Angels will descend on earth to begin their quest.

The Objectives of the NDP Angels are:
- To bridge the gaps between fellow cadets or “Angels and Mortals” (Mortals are to guess their angel on National Day)
- To bring fun and enjoyment into NDP

All Angels are required to work by the Angel Code strictly to accomplish their objectives.

The Angel Code
1. Thou shall obey the ArchAngels’ will at all times.
2. Thou shall not reveal your mortal’s identity to anyone unless with the approval from the ArchAngels (Blogs included).
3. Thou shall not reveal your action plans for your mortal to anyone unless with the approval from the ArchAngels (Blogs included).
4. Thou shall not mete out personal attacks to fellow Angels and Mortals (Blogs included).
5. Thou shall offer DIY gifts or keep gifts within $2.
6. Thou shall send messages of love and concern to thy Mortal regularly.

All Angels will be ranked for all the merits they have done. Angels are required to do good deeds for their mortals and accomplish missions to attain a rank in the Angel Corps. The Ranks and Criteria are as follows:

To celebrate and commemorate the Birth of the NDP Angels, all Angels are to write a Testimonial on "Why You Joined NDP" to their respective Mortals, to enlighten them about thy wishes, aspirations and goals for NDP.

This is thy first step up the Angel Ranks, do take thy work seriously and be cautious not to disclose thy identity or clues to thy identity to thy Mortal.

The 1st Combined Ceremonial Rehearsal concluded last Saturday with a total cadet turnout of 58. The National Day Parade 2006 Red Cross Youth Marching Contingent was not able to field a full contingent for the training.

The 1st Combined Ceremonial Rehearsal is also where the National Day Parade 2006 Red Cross Youth Marching Contingent practiced the entire parade procedure for the first time.

Dear Cadets,

The mediocre attendance of the National Day Parade 2006 Red Cross Youth Marching Contingent is a disturbing issue as of late.

It is important for the NDP 06 RCY Marching Contingent to field a full contingent with reserves as standby for every training organized. It is also important for YOU, the participant, to attend not less than 85% of the organized trainings to secure your place in the Main Contingent and the CCA points that come with your active participation.

The National Day Parade 2006 Red Cross Youth Marching Contingent Committee will not hestitate to remove any Cadet found practising absenteeism from organized trainings.

The Committee also seek the Cadets' cooperation in attending every organized training diligently, punctually and actively.

NDP vs ULP

Dear Cadets,

The NDP vs ULP topic has dominated tagboard discussions recently.

ULP, or the Unit Leaders Programme, is a leadership course conducted over 4 Saturdays in May and June. As a result, Cadets will not be able to attend 4 of the NDP trainings whilst being involved in ULP. Contrary to previous years, there will not be another ULP available in December this year.

The National Day Parade 2006 Red Cross Youth Marching Contingent needs to field at least a full contingent of 64 for every training where and whenever possible. However, the Committee also recognizes the importance and value of ULP to the individual Cadets and schools.

Therefore, the National Day Parade 2006 Red Cross Youth Marching Contingent Committee strongly advises Cadets not to attend ULP unless absolutely necessary.

For Cadets who are nominated to attend ULP, the Committee requires you to contact the Project Overall In-Charge, Mr Alfian Aluyi as soon as possible.

1st Marching Contingent Rehearsal

Dear Cadets and Instructors,

It has been 4 weeks since we last trained for National Day Parade 2006 as a contingent. This Saturday, the 64 strong contingent + 16 reserves will train with other National Day Parade Marching Contingents as a parade for the first time.

As the training will be held in foreign grounds, it is not advisable to bring any unnecessary valuables as far as possible. Furthermore, the training grounds will be crowded and the chances of the loss of valuables will be multiplied. Any effort to recover lost items thereafter will be futile.

As a precautionary measure, cadets will leave all their belongings in the Headquarters (HQ) where it will be locked up and safe. No cadet will be allowed to bring any personal items to the training grounds other than water bottles and personal medications. This rule will be strictly enforced.

THE RCY NDP 2006 CONTINGENT INSIGNIA

The idea of having an indigenous design for the RCY NDP 2006 T-shirts instead of using the NDP 2006 logo came about to create a distinctive identity for our marching contingent. It is the norm for other organizations particularly the SAF Guard-of-Honour contingents, to make their own NDP T-shirts bearing their respective SAF formation insignia or designs.

The RCY NDP 2006 contingent insignia was approved for printing by Singapore Red Cross (SRC) Corporate Communications. The basic concept of the design is simple yet symbolic. The design was essentially taken from the embroidered insignia of the RCY Cadet SWO rank (left), a thick red stripe sandwiched by 2 thin navy blue stripes. Like the SWO rank itself, the design bears the testimony of Loyalty, Leadership, Discipline, Dedication, Pride, Passion, Professionalism, Perseverance, Resilience, Ethics, Courage, Camaraderie and Care for comrades. These are the core values that every member should aspire as we ascend to greater heights.

The words “Singapore Red Cross NDP 2006 Marching Contingent” aims to inform others that the T-shirt bearer is representing the SRC in NDP 2006 as a parade participant. This helps to educate the public that Red Cross is not just about first aid. The patriotic tagline “For Honour, For Country” are the sincere reasons why our cadets and instructors dedicate their time and effort in NDP, guided by the ideals of the crescent and five stars of the State flag.

The national colours of red and white (as the strikethrough lines) are used to highlight “NDP 2006” which is the grand event while other components in the design are in navy blue. Navy blue is significant because it is a traditional Red Cross uniform colour and a status of boldness and steadfast calibre; the attributes of a credible and vibrant uniform group. Together the combination of red and navy blue on a white background enables the insignia to project a bold yet striking effect.

2nd Internal Training

The 1st Internal Training and Selection came to an end at noon last Saturday. A total of 115 cadets from 40 schools attended the event. However, only 80 cadets from 33 schools were selected to form the NDP2006 Red Cross Youth Marching Contingent and Reserves.

The next Internal Training will be held on the 1st of April 2006. Only selected cadets need to attend this training. The details are as below:

Come 25th March 2006, National Day Parade 2006 Red Cross Youth Marching Contingent will conduct its first Internal Training & Selection.

What's so different about it this year? This year, the training venue will shift away from the Red Cross Campsite, into the heartlands! Newly built in 2005, Guangyang Secondary School will be the new venue for this year's Internal Trainings.
